Photo: Of What's To Come...

Last Saturday afternoon I headed to Chapel Hill to visit the venue where I will be photographing Emily and Jacob's wedding tomorrow afternoon. While Im certainly a bit partial to charming, rustic barns as the perfect spot to make such significant unions (Marc & I also got married in a barn), it's undeniably a beautiful spot.

The boardwalk on the way back from a neat little gazebo in the middle of a pond

This room is upstairs in the barn, near the "getting ready" area. So warm and monochromatic - I cant wait to play with this on Saturday!

I'm really looking forward to it!

Photo: R+A in Nags Head

This past weekend, I had the exciting opportunity to return a very special favor. Allen was the primary photographer at our wedding in December, 2007 and on Saturday I photographed his wedding on the beach in Nag's Head. It was an honor to be there and an absolute pleasure to be wielding my camera during this very special event.

A sweet moment.

This might be one of my favorite wedding photos that I've ever taken - such pure excitement!

Stunning. Completely stunning.
I love the dress - such personality and style!

Graphic: Engagement Party Labels and Signs

I created these graphics to go with a black and ivory color scheme for an engagement party. The groom, like myself, is a bit of a font snob so I crossed my fingers as I selected this slightly eccentric - what I would consider risky - font. He loved it!

I wanted to strike a balance between the elegance of the occasion and the casual, crisp feel of an outdoor party held in the beginning of Fall.

The food labels have a very simple type treatment on the front and a variety of elaborate patterns on the back, making them pretty from both sides as guests make their way around the food tables.

The food tags are held in place by tiny close pins that are glued to coffee stirrers. I borrowed this brilliant idea from Heather Hayes, a dear friend and talented designer in Asheville, who first created these little "devices" for the food tables at her wedding. View more of her work here and here - she is amazing! Empty votive holders filled with rice work well to keep the tags in an upright position and match the color scheme. (I borrowed the rice idea from the pen cup at Greek Fiesta - hey, sometimes you find ideas in the oddest of places...)

I did an engagement shoot for this lovely couple several months ago. While they have already had their photo package for quite sometime, a little bit of surprise is created by converting several of the photos to black and white and displaying them with the other graphics.

Photo: A Walk in the Park

This blog has been in the brainstorming phase for the better part of... well, no need to be precise. Suffice it to say: quite awhile. I promised myself that purchasing a new computer would be just the thing to get me going with a real marketing scheme and a wordpress blog. (Oh the convincing things we say to ourselves to justify large amounts of money spent on fancy, shiny electronics.) I also briefly toyed with the idea of a drupal website - which still could come to fruition in... 2025 - stay tuned! Honestly though, upon inspection of all of these options, I've decided that I like blogger just fine. It keeps it simple and lets me focus my time on actually doing the photos and graphics and not on say-huh-where-how, fancy-pants-template, what?

I cant think of a better way to start this blog than with a few shots from my portrait photo shoot this afternoon. Not only is almost-2-year-old Claire incredibly cute but she experiences her surroundings with such awe and curiosity that it's contagious. The texture of freshly cut grass under bare feet, crispy leaves, and the hollow sound that a bridge makes when you walk across were things that the three of us - Claire, her mom, and myself - fully and consciously experienced and enjoyed this afternoon.
